
Disasters for August 2025
For the month of August 2025, a total of 147 significant disasters were reported across the ASEAN region. The ASEAN Member States affected during this period included Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. The majority of these disasters (65.3%) occurred in Indonesia, which recorded 96 separate disaster events primarily consisting of floods, droughts, and winds. Thailand and Viet Nam followed with 18 and 17 events respectively.
The region saw a significant spike in displacement, with 195,217 internally displaced persons (IDPs), a figure nearly 2.7x higher than the five-year average. August 2025 saw disasters affecting approximately 97 per 100,000 people and displacing 28 per 100,000 people in the region.
