
Disasters for December 2025
For the month of December 2025, a total of 148 significant disasters were reported across the ASEAN region. The affected ASEAN Member States included Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Viet Nam. Indonesia recorded the highest number of disasters with 139 events, representing approximately 93.9% of the regional total, which is higher than its five-year average of 116 events for December. The total number of affected persons in the region reached 822,064, which is significantly lower (approx. 4.2x) than the five-year December average of 3.46 million.
December 2025 saw disasters affecting approximately 117 per 100,000 people and displacing 4 per 100,000 people in the region. The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) was 28,510, which is notably lower than the historical average of 216,072. Floods remained the dominant disaster type, accounting for 75% of all occurrences (111 events), followed by wind-related incidents (21 events) and landslides (11 events). While the frequency of disasters was slightly higher than the historical average of 139, the overall humanitarian impacts—including fatalities (7 vs. 129), injuries (3 vs. 313), and damaged houses (103,872 vs. 407,313)—remained below five-year average levels.
