
Disasters for February 2025
For the month of February 2025, a total of 132 disasters or an average of five disasters per day were reported in the ASEAN region. The number of reported occurrences was 1.1x more than the number of reported disasters in February of last year and 1.3x more than the five-year average (2020-2024) for February. The ASEAN Member States affected by these events were Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Indonesia recorded the highest number of significant disasters with 110 events. This indicated that 83.33% of all significant disasters recorded in the ASEAN region for the period of February 2025 occurred in Indonesia. This was followed by the Philippines (6.82%), Thailand (5.30%), Malaysia (3.79%), and Viet Nam (0.76%). Out of the 132 reported significant disasters, 85 (64.39%) events occurred in the first half of the month. Indonesia and the Philippines recorded the highest numbers of affected population, for a combined total of 930.03K people, or 98% of all disaster affected population in the ASEAN region for the month of February 2025.
In terms of extent of the impacts, the reported values indicate that there was an average of 4.55K people affected people for each disaster in Indonesia, while the Philippines had an average of 47.78K affected individuals per reported disaster. Other affected population were reported in Malaysia (1.92%), Thailand (0.26%), and Viet Nam (0.02%). A total of 27 fatalities were reported in the month of February 2025, of which 15 (56%) were from Indonesia, five (19%) were from Malaysia, and seven (26%) were from the Philippines. Overall, for the month of February 2025, the recorded significant disasters had an average of 7.20K affected individuals per disaster occurrence, which was 1.4x less than the five-year (2020-2024) average. These reported significant disasters affected 137 per 100,000 people* in the ASEAN Region. Meanwhile, about 28 per 100,000 people* in the region have been displaced, which was 9.3x more than the recorded displacements in the previous month.
