On 5 April, the fifth batch of ASEAN relief items—tarpaulins and kitchen sets—arrived in Nay Pyi Taw to support communities affected by the M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar. Dispatched from the DELSA regional warehouse in Subang, Malaysia, the items were transported by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
The handover of the ASEAN relief items between the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) and Myanmar was witnessed by the Honourable Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and the ASEAN Chair. The AHA Centre is also in close coordination with the Department of Disaster Management of Myanmar (DDM) and partners for further mobilisation of the upcoming batches of the relief items.
In addition, ASEAN-ERAT members from all 10 ASEAN Member States are currently on the ground in Myanmar, conducting rapid assessments, coordinating efforts, and facilitating incoming relief.
The AHA Centre remains in close coordination with DDM Myanmar, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) of Thailand, ASEAN Member States, and partners to ensure a unified and effective disaster response.
Thank you to all partners for standing with us in these challenging times!
