The age-old phrase “it takes a village” emphasises the importance of a community working together for the benefit of all. This concept was explored in the 2024 ASEAN Strategic Policy Dialogue on Disaster Management (SPDDM), held on 23 August in Singapore.
Through engaging panel discussions, experts shared their views on the importance of empowering communities, to achieve sustainable resilience through an inclusive and collaborative approach. A consensus was also reached – that resilience can only be achieved when everyone plays their role, including governments, private sector, civil society, academia, and local communities.
The AHA Centre would like to thank the fellow co-organisers, the ASEAN Secretariat, and especially the Singapore Civil Defence Force for hosting another successful Policy Dialogue, as well as to our knowledge partners S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and Nexus Resilience Group. A special thanks also to the European Union in ASEAN for their support in making this event possible.
