
REGIONAL SUMMARY:
During the thirteenth week of 2026, a total of 28 disaster events were reported across the ASEAN region, including droughts, floods, storms, and wind-related disasters in Indonesia, Thailand, and Viet Nam. In Indonesia, Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB) reported incidents across West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Lampung, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra. In Thailand, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported storms and winds in Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Chachoengsao, Phetchabun, Sisaket, Nong Khai, and Bueng Kan. Meanwhile, in Viet Nam, Viet Nam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (VDDMA) reported storms and winds across several provinces in the northern part of the country.
HIGHLIGHT:
In Viet Nam, VDDMA reported the impacts of heavy rainfall, hail, thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning that have occurred since 29 March 2026 across northern provinces, including Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Son La, and Ha Noi. According to the reports, the situation has resulted in 4 fatalities and 9 injuries, with 13 houses collapsed and 8,484 houses damaged. In the agriculture sector, approximately 1,156 hectares of crops, fruit trees, and annual plants were affected, along with an additional 507 hectares of forestry crops. Furthermore, around 1,488 livestock and poultry were reported dead. Relevant authorities are undertaking necessary actions to respond to the situation and support affected communities.
HYDRO-METEO-CLIMATOLOGICAL:
For the past week, data from the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) indicated medium to high 7-day average rainfall across Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar (northern areas), the Philippines (Mindanao), Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam. As of this reporting, there is no active tropical cyclone being monitored in the ASEAN region (JTWC).
GEOPHYSICAL:
Three (3) significant earthquakes (M>5.0) were recorded by Indonesia’s Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG). Mount Semeru (alert level III), Lewotobi Laki-laki (alert level II), Marapi (alert level II), and Ibu (alert level II) in Indonesia, and Taal (alert level 1), Mayon (alert level 3), Bulusan (alert level 1), and Kanlaon (alert level 2) volcanoes in the Philippines reported recent volcanic activity according to Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) and the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
OUTLOOK:
According to the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC), for the coming week, drier than usual conditions are predicted over much of Mainland Southeast Asia and most of the northern and southeastern Maritime Continent; and warmer than usual temperatures are predicted over much of Mainland Southeast Asia and parts of the northwestern Maritime Continent. For the regional assessment of extremes, there is a small increase in chance of very heavy rainfall over parts of northern Myanmar; and there is an increased chance of extreme hot conditions over most of northeastern, eastern and southern Mainland Southeast Asia, and there is also a moderate increase in chance of extreme hot conditions over central parts of Mainland Southeast Asia, parts of Malay Peninsula, central Sumatra and northern Philippines.
