MOULDING LEADERS

It is vital for the region’s people and development that Member States share collective disaster response methods that are efficient and effective. One of ACE Programme’s goals is to enhance the capacity of the National Disaster Management Organisations of ASEAN Member States having the primary mandate to ensure the protection of their citizens and the provision of relief and assistance when so required.

ACE Programme participants gain knowledge, skills and behaviours that enable them to improve their country’s disaster response systems and to assist in coordinating a collective regional response.

Participants in the 1000-hour programme conducted over four to six months are trained intensively to improve their capacities in the areas of disaster management and humanitarian assistance operations; in leading and delivering assistance to affected communities; in facilitating collaboration among ASEAN Member States and other humanitarian actors; and in conceptualising and developing projects that they can take back to their organisations after graduating from the course.

The learning programme combines various adult learning methodologies: online courses, classroom sessions, experiential challenges, case study analysis, individual and team projects and real-life simulation exercises.

ACE Programme participants also learn the challenging nature of leadership in highly complex and uncertain situations during disasters and enhance their skills in communicating the purpose of One ASEAN One Response.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT

ACE PROGRAMME

Mr. Henrikus Adi Hernanto,
National Disaster Management Authority of Indonesia (BNPB) Indonesia (Batch 4)

“The ACE Programme has helped me a lot to become an effective leader by providing on-the-job training and capacity building. It allows me to acquire professional experience on disaster management as well as providing a platform to form a strong network with other ACE Programme colleagues for strengthening future regional cooperation. I am using the new knowledge and skills in my organisation by helping my superiors and director in decision making and supporting them on technical matters during meetings both in national and international cooperation work.”
