On 3-7 August 2026, 15 ASEAN-ERAT members from acr On 3-7 August 2026, 15 ASEAN-ERAT members from across Southeast Asia gathered in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, for the ASEAN-ERAT Level 2 Course on Early Recovery hosted by the Myanmar Department of Disaster Management.

Through hands-on exercises, knowledge sharing, and field visits to earthquake recovery sites, participants gained valuable insights into translating recovery needs into practical actions that support communities affected by disasters.

By investing in specialised expertise, ASEAN continues to strengthen collective disaster response and recovery in the spirit of One ASEAN, One Response.

Welcoming 22 participants of the ACE-LEDMP Middle Welcoming 22 participants of the ACE-LEDMP Middle Executive Level - Third Batch, 2026 to the on-site sessions in Jakarta!

Starting today, participants from all 11 ASEAN Member States will undergo a challenging learning journey to become future leaders in ASEAN disaster management.

Wishing all participants a productive and enriching experience in the month ahead, before they depart for the final Study Visit to Japan in September 2026.

The AHA Centre and New Zealand have officially lau The AHA Centre and New Zealand have officially launched the Strengthening Institutional Capacity of ASEAN in Disaster Management (SICAP) Phase II Project!

As one of the most significant investments in enhancing disaster management capacities across ASEAN, SICAP II will strengthen the AHA Centre's role as a regional knowledge hub while advancing ASEAN's position as a global leader in disaster management.

The launch was officiated by Executive Director Mr. Lee Yam Ming alongside H.E. Joanna Jane Anderson, Ambassador of New Zealand to ASEAN, H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Socio-Cultural Community, and Dr. Raditya Jati, S.Si., M.Si., Deputy Minister for Systems and Strategy of BNPB Indonesia, witnessed by representatives of the AHA Centre Governing Board, ASEAN Secretariat, and Partners.

The AHA Centre extends its sincere appreciation to the Government of New Zealand for its continued partnership through the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

Participants of the ACE-LEDMP Middle Executive Lev Participants of the ACE-LEDMP Middle Executive Level, Third Batch – 2026 have completed the Online Sessions that took place from 13 July to 6 August 2026.

The Online Sessions comprised of 11 modules: 8 facilitated by partners through video conference and 3 self-paced modules completed through the AHA Centre Learning Management System (LMS) supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

Thank you to all partners who have contributed to the success of the online sessions!

Following the launch of cooperation between the AH Following the launch of cooperation between the AHA Centre and the International Telecommunication Union (@ituofficial) in Bangkok on 17 July 2026, the AHA Centre officially received emergency telecommunications equipment on 5 August 2026. The equipment was formally received by Mr Somsanith Ninthavong, Director of Corporate Affairs, as part of an initiative to improve disaster preparedness across ASEAN and regions.

Pre-positioned at the AHA Centre for use throughout the region, the equipment will support emergency deployments, simulation exercises, training and capacity-building activities involving ASEAN-ERAT and ASEAN Member States. This initiative puts the new cooperation into action by helping communities stay connected during emergencies.
The AHA Centre convened the Third ASEAN Disaster M The AHA Centre convened the Third ASEAN Disaster Management Training Network (Train-Net) Workshop on Regional Capacity Building Needs and Curriculum Development and the First ASEAN Train-Net Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, from 4-6 August 2026. 

Supported by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) @nz.asean through the SICAP II Project, and hosted by Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Thailand, the workshop held in a hybrid format and brought together representatives from all 11 ASEAN Member States to advance the operationalisation of Train-Net and kick-start the development of regionally standardised disaster management curricula.

Key outcomes included: 
✅ Strengthening the strategic governance and direction of Train-Net
✅ Advancing regional discussions on standardised disaster management curricula
✅ Reviewing capacity-building needs, competency requirements, and skills gaps across ASEAN
✅ Exploring practical disaster management training systems and capacity-building initiatives through a study visit to Thailand's DDPM Training Institute

This important milestone reflects ASEAN’s continued commitment to building a more cohesive, professional, and interconnected disaster management training ecosystem, ultimately strengthening the region’s resilience and preparedness.

On 29 July 2026, the AHA Centre and Japan official On 29 July 2026, the AHA Centre and Japan officially launched the Strengthening the Capacity of the ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN-ERAT) Phase IV project and the Disaster Emergency Logistics System for ASEAN (DELSA) Phase V project, supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).

With a combined contribution of more than USD 12.7 million from Japan over the next three years, these flagship initiatives will further enhance ASEAN’s disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of Japan for its continued partnership and commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more resilient ASEAN.
